How to remove and replace a BMW E46 3 series gear knob.
No tools are required for this How To.
This is a very easy job, the only reason I have typed it up is as a precursor for other jobs you might want to undertake, such as removing the gear surround trim or replacing the gear gaiter.
To remove it simply pull upwards firmly. Be careful when removing the gear knob as it's a tight fitting, I've heard some rather humorous (but painful) stories of people giving themselves black eyes when it comes loose.
When removed it will reveal the gear stick as shown below.

ReplyDeleteHi there, yep just the same. Some people suggest turning the ignition to position 2 so that you can change the gear to N but not so the engine is on. This gives you a better angle to pull from. Make sure the handbrake is fully on though.
